In Ukraine, they doubted the successes of the Armed Forces
26.09.2025 20:14Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared his readiness to hold elections in Ukraine if a truce agreement with Russia is reached.
He said this in an interview with Axios.
“I told him (U.S. President Donald Trump — Ed.) that if we have a truce, if there is a ceasefire, then we can use this period, and I will be able to give a signal to parliament, and it may be possible — though difficult under the Constitution — to consider holding elections. Lawmakers could try to find a way to organize them. But we need a truce,” Zelensky noted.
Journalist Barak Ravid asked whether Zelensky was committing to promote the idea of elections “tomorrow, if Vladimir Putin agrees to a three-month, six-month, or other truce?”
“Yes. Because during this period Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. must find a way to really end this war. And I am not against it if people want to see a leader with a new mandate. I am ready to step aside, because that is not my goal,” Zelensky said.
Earlier, in an interview with Fox News, Zelensky also allowed for the possibility of elections after a ceasefire, provided security guarantees are given.
