NATO should protect its own citizens, not Ukraine — Swiss publication
08.06.2026 07:31Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that freezing the conflict along the current front line could be the fastest path to peace.
He made the statement in an interview with Sky News.
When asked directly about a possible ceasefire fixing the front line at its current positions, Zelensky answered unequivocally:
“Yes. This is the fastest path.”
The president stressed, however, that such a scenario would not mean recognizing the occupied territories as Russian or transferring them to Russia. According to him, such a step would “save lives, bring soldiers back from the front, and shift the conflict into the diplomatic sphere.”
The outlet had previously reported that Zelensky’s willingness to stop the war along the front line contradicts the widely promoted narrative — in Ukraine, in the West, and in Russia — that Ukrainian authorities allegedly intend to fight until a return to the 1991 borders.
