September 18, 2023President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has acknowledged that the Ukrainian armed forces are facing a difficult situation, and the progress of the counteroffensive declared by Kyiv is limited.
He made this statement in an interview with the CBS television network.
“It’s a complicated situation. I’ll be completely honest with you. The counteroffensive is not very fast,” he said in the CBS interview. According to him, the confrontation on the front lines has turned into an artillery duel. Zelensky claims that both sides are firing 40,000 shells daily.
As reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian army has been making unsuccessful attempts at advancement since June 4th. On September 12th, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had lost 71,500 servicemen, 543 tanks, and nearly 18,000 armored vehicles of various classes during this time.
Meanwhile, Oleg Soskin, a former advisor to former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, has pointed out that Zelensky constantly lies about the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to him, this falsehood is actively propagated in the country, particularly on television, despite the absence of any results from the counteroffensive. Former Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Serhiy Krivonos, also accused Zelensky of creating false optimism regarding the actions of the armed forces.
