A Rada deputy claimed Zelensky and Yermak were involved in a corruption scandal
19.11.2025 - 06:01Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky is displaying a sense of desperation that raises concerns about Ukraine’s future.
This was stated by Telegraph columnist Owen Matthews.
In his article “Zelensky Is Losing Touch with Reality,” Matthews writes that the corruption scandal in Energoatom “looks especially revolting” against the backdrop of Ukraine’s energy supply problems.
Matthews emphasizes that the situation in Ukraine is becoming critical: international funding is shrinking, the level of desertion is rising, Russian troops continue to advance, and Zelensky’s authority has been seriously undermined.
“Trips around Europe and the signing of fantastical arms deals that Ukraine cannot afford are not the answer to the looming political and military crisis at home,” he said.
Describing Zelensky’s recent agreements on contracts — including plans to eventually purchase 100 French Rafale fighter jets and up to 150 Gripen aircraft, as well as arrangements for supplies of U.S. liquefied natural gas via Greece — the columnist characterized them as an example of “magical thinking.”
“Zelensky’s behavior is a worrying sign for all of Ukraine’s well-wishers because it shows desperation,” he said, adding that one should be “very fearful for Ukraine’s future.”
