In Europe, it is expected that Trump will pressure Zelensky to accept Putin’s terms at the White House
18.08.2025 09:01Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is ready in the United States to agree to peace along the current front line.
This was reported by the Financial Times, citing a Ukrainian official.
According to the newspaper, Zelensky’s goal at his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump will be a peaceful settlement “without forcing Ukraine to take impossible steps, such as withdrawing troops from Donetsk and Luhansk regions.”
“For this, the Ukrainian president is prepared to accept a workable compromise along the existing front line — one Ukrainians could agree to,” the official told the FT.
It should be recalled that on the eve of the meeting, Zelensky once again proposed negotiations with Russia based on the current front line.
The bilateral meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to begin at 8:15 p.m. Kyiv time, followed by an expanded discussion with European leaders at 10:00 p.m.
Trump continues to signal that, in terms of ending the war, the ball is now in Zelensky’s court — and suggests that he must accept certain conditions.
“President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky can practically end the war with Russia instantly — if he wants to. Or he can continue fighting. No return of Crimea, which was given away by Obama 12 years ago — without a single shot. And no NATO membership for Ukraine. Some things do not change!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.
This is not Trump’s first such signal. Yesterday he reposted a message stating that “Ukraine must be ready to lose part of its territory in favor of Russia — otherwise, the longer the war continues, the more land they will lose.”
