Withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas, Kyiv’s refusal to join NATO, accession to the EU: what the new U.S. plan offers Ukraine
December 11, 2025U.S. President Donald Trump has once again urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to conclude a peace agreement with Russia and call elections in Ukraine.
The head of the White House said this while speaking to journalists.
According to Trump, 82% of Ukrainians are demanding peace.
“Zelensky needs to be realistic. They haven’t had elections for a long time. They’re losing a huge number of people. Eighty-two percent of Ukrainians are demanding a deal. They want a deal to be concluded. I understand that. They’re losing thousands and thousands of people every week. They want it to end,” Trump said.
In addition, the U.S. president again spoke of the need to hold elections in Ukraine.
“This is not casting shade on anyone, but they have a huge corruption problem there. And people are asking: when will there be elections? Will there be elections at all? Or are they just going to keep going like this?” he said.
Trump also confirmed that he had spoken about Ukraine today with the leaders of Germany, France and the United Kingdom, and said he had had a “fairly tough discussion about Ukraine with the European leaders.”
He was asked to clarify what he meant by “fairly tough discussion,” but did not answer directly.
“I think we had some minor disagreements about people. And we’ll see how it ends,” the head of the White House said.
Recall that the day before, Trump expressed confidence that Zelensky would have to “get down to business” and “accept things as they are,” because Ukraine is losing the war.
