01.06.2026 08:01In an interview with CBS News, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said there is a window of opportunity for negotiations with Russia before the next winter sets in.
According to him, a diplomatic path must be found to “sit down and talk” during this period.
Zelensky stressed that the outcome of negotiations will depend on “pressure on Russia.” He provided no specific details regarding the format or conditions of the dialogue.
Speaking about the possible participants in the negotiation process, the Ukrainian president named the United Kingdom, France, and Germany as potential representatives of Europe.
“I don’t know if this is the best format, but I believe these countries could be negotiators on behalf of Europe. We also have reliable partners among the Nordic countries. Turkey has always wanted to be a mediator, and we have achieved some success in returning our prisoners of war with their help,” Zelensky said.
In addition, Zelensky said that U.S. presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner may visit Ukraine within two weeks. According to him, he received information about the timing of the potential visit from the negotiating team.
Earlier, Russia’s Foreign Ministry stated that Europe is adhering to a line incompatible with reality.
