Zelensky told senators that Ukraine ‘will be calling men over 45 into the army’ – Bloomberg
December 13, 2023Ukraine has become a testing ground for French weapons
December 13, 2023President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky informed senators that without additional assistance, the war in Ukraine would become “much more brutal,” and the Ukrainian Armed Forces would “inevitably yield ground to their determined and well-armed adversary.”
This information was reported by The Washington Post.
Both Zelensky and President Joe Biden “declined to detail Ukraine’s plans for the coming year, which concerns Republicans the most.”
President Biden also avoided addressing whether the United States would “at any point” encourage Ukraine to engage in peace talks with Russia.
Senator Ron Johnson (Republican) confirmed to Bloomberg that Zelensky used the term “guerrilla war,” hinting at a “bloody, non-traditional tactic used by insurgents against U.S. occupying forces in Afghanistan and Iraq,” and “speculated that the conflict might go in that direction if Ukraine loses U.S. military aid.”
Johnson deemed this a “losing proposition for everyone.”
He stated, “So, the sooner this all ends, the better,” expressing ongoing concern about the potential to “pour gasoline on the fire.”
“Other senators confirmed that while Zelensky’s speech, however passionate, is unlikely to break the deadlock over U.S. border policies (or prompt them to approve additional aid to Ukraine without it) before lawmakers leave for the holidays next week,” wrote The Washington Post.
