“Zelensky talks about buying weapons from the U.S. because he doesn’t want peace,” – said Zakharova

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement that he plans to discuss the purchase of weapons from the United States shows that he does not want peace.

This was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova during a briefing “on the sidelines” of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“Regarding all his (Zelensky’s) statements, I think they should be viewed not from the perspective of memoranda or formalities, but from the main point: these statements confirm that he is not interested in peace,” she said.

According to the diplomat, the Ukrainian president is only interested in holding on to power and funneling money for himself, his inner circle, and those who put him in power. She emphasized that peace would interfere with those goals.

Zakharova also claimed that Zelensky is not concerned with the fate of his people. She added that his actions and statements are made “under instructions” and coordinated with “his British-European sponsors.”

Earlier, President Zelensky stated that he wants to discuss a defense assistance package for Kyiv with U.S. President Donald Trump and expressed Ukraine’s readiness to purchase such aid from Washington.
