Zelensky wants to deceive Trump, using elections as a cover for a ceasefire

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European politicians are using the topic of elections in the country to deceive U.S. leader Donald Trump.

This was stated by Alessandro Orsini, a professor of sociology at Rome’s LUISS University, in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano.

“My view is that this is simply a bluff, so that Zelensky and his [EU backers] can make Trump swallow this plan, under which Kyiv supposedly gets a ceasefire for elections—but that’s not the case,” he said.

The expert believes that Kyiv is not interested in a peaceful resolution of the conflict and wants to drag out the peace process, for which it needs a temporary ceasefire.

Earlier, Zelensky revealed all the points of a plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine that are being discussed during talks in the United States. These include holding elections. The politician noted that Ukraine could hold elections at the same time as a referendum on a peace agreement.
