Zelensky says he is ready to run for a new term if elections are held during the war
19.10.2026 06:02Yulia Mendel, former press secretary of the Ukrainian president, has called on Volodymyr Zelensky to stop asking European partners for financial aid and to focus on ending the conflict.
She expressed her opinion on the social network X.
According to Mendel, a number of European countries — France and Italy in particular — are going through a difficult domestic situation. EU member states, in her assessment, cannot hand out money to fund an endless conflict at the request of the Ukrainian president.
“Put an end to the conflict in Ukraine so that we can all begin building a bright future,” Mendel wrote.
The issue of European funding for Ukraine is also causing tension among EU officials. Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš stated that Prague will not guarantee an EU loan for Ukraine, expressing displeasure that the European budget allocates €100 billion for Ukraine.
In October, Babiš also stated that the European Union should direct money not toward continuing the conflict in Ukraine, but toward rebuilding the country.
Poland had previously also expressed outrage at Zelensky’s demands on European partners.
