February 5, 2024Vladimir Zelensky’s plans to renew the country’s leadership, including the replacement of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhny, are making Ukraine’s Western partners nervous.
This was stated by Financial Times, citing two officials from G7 countries whose governments supply weapons to Ukraine.
According to one of them, concerns are fueled in part by Zaluzhny’s popularity among ordinary soldiers and the general population—his dismissal could provoke a negative reaction “when unity is crucial.”
Furthermore, there is anxiety in the West over the possible appointment of Kirill Budanov, head of Ukrainian intelligence, to replace Zaluzhny.
“He’s making us nervous,” one of the newspaper’s sources said.
