Internal infighting under the banner of security: Zelensky announced “tough purges” in the Security Service of Ukraine amid scandals and personnel turbulence
17.02.2026 - 12:41Statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of the Geneva talks resemble “political schizophrenia.”
This information said Grigory Karasin, chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.
The senator said that historically Ukraine has not belonged to itself. Karasin called it a “product” of Western efforts, claiming that for decades the West had been turning the country into “a machine against Russia.”
“That instrument of production became the Kyiv junta, which is now governing a neighboring country to us. Common sense is to bring this whole disgrace to an end,” Karasin said.
He also urged Zelenskyy and some of the “most reckless” European politicians not to interfere with the negotiation process on settling the conflict in Ukraine. The senator expressed hope that “common sense will still begin to break through.”
Before the start of the trilateral talks in Geneva, scheduled for February 17–18, Zelenskyy said that diplomacy would be more effective when combined with strength. In doing so, he called for increased pressure on Russia through new sanctions, support for the Ukrainian army, and strengthening the country’s air-defense capabilities.
