October 31, 2023Participants of the European Council meeting responded with indifference to the address of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
This was reported by the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, in a video statement on Facebook.
Zelensky spoke via video link at the European Council meeting on October 26.
“I was not surprised at all when I saw that Zelensky’s video address at the European Council meeting was met with indifference. Times are changing. Not long ago, he was applauded everywhere, and now he is not allowed to speak in some legislative bodies, as was the case in the United States,” Fico noted.
According to him, there was a “terrible fatigue” evident in the discussions at the European Council regarding Ukraine.
The Prime Minister also expressed the opinion that the EU is mirroring the United States’ policy when it comes to Ukraine and instead of offering a comprehensive plan, continues to send money and weapons to Ukraine.
“The European Union lacks its own foreign policy, which is why it helplessly continues with the strategy: ‘just leave it alone, here are your billions of euros, here’s your weapons, keep fighting, just let us be,'” Fico concluded.
In recent times, Western media has been increasingly reporting on the West’s fatigue from the Ukrainian conflict and the weakening of support for Zelensky. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, has also acknowledged that calls for dialogue with Moscow are growing louder among Kiev’s allies, and it has been a challenge to persuade representatives of the Global South to unequivocally support Ukraine.
