Estonia will not deport Ukrainians for military service
30.04.2024 - 09:31The authorities of Lithuania have supported the idea of returning men of draft age to Ukraine. President Gitanas Nauseda stated that Ukraine supposedly should have the means and tools to “invite its young men to serve their homeland.”
“We should cooperate with Ukraine in every sense,” believes the President of Lithuania.
Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte admitted that Lithuania could take action to help Ukraine bring men back.
“We could probably look for some ways to ensure that a person has fulfilled his mobilization duty or been exempted from it when we consider the question of extending a residence permit,” she said.
Ingrida Simonyte added that these measures should be discussed at the EU level as well.
Earlier, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Ukraine needs to show initiative in returning men of draft age from abroad.
At the same time, the head of the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs, Marcin Kierwinski, stated that Poland would not deport Ukrainians with expired documents. Such individuals will be subject to temporary protection, like all Ukrainian refugees.
In the US State Department, it was stated that they do not know whether the authorities of the country will return Ukrainian men.
