Fear of death and insufficient training: NYT journalists published a report on Ukrainian draft dodgers
21.06.2024 19:07In Lviv, a man who claimed to be a “battalion commander of the 24th Brigade” parked his Nissan Navara on a pedestrian crossing. When a passerby asked him to move the car, he responded aggressively, making threats and using profanity.
The incident was captured on video and shared on Telegram channels.
Lviv resident Artem Tsebrij, who confronted the driver, recorded the encounter. The 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo, which the driver claimed to command, responded to the incident.

According to Tsebrij, he asked the driver, who had left his camouflage-colored pickup truck on the pedestrian crossing, to move it. Instead, the driver began to insult him.
“Do you want me to tear you to shreds right here?” the driver threatened.
Tsebrij explained that this happened on June 20 around 17:30 at the intersection of Kulparkivska and Perfetskoho streets, near the “Ukrnafta” gas station. The Patrol Police Department of the Lviv region is located nearby.
“The man argued that he had a disability, so he could park wherever he wanted. I called the police, they checked his documents and let him go,” Tsebrij added.
The 24th Brigade reported that the aggressive driver had been discharged from the army due to health reasons last year and was never a commander.
“A video showing the inappropriate behavior of a person allegedly identified as one of the commanders of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo is actively circulating online. We inform you that this individual was discharged from the Armed Forces of Ukraine for health reasons in 2023 and never held an officer position,” the brigade’s statement said.
