Russia is outpacing NATO in weapons production at an alarming rate – The Wall Street Journal reported
10.07.2024 - 17:51Ukraine deserves to hear the truth about NATO and that the country is still far from membership in the alliance.
CNN commentator Daniel DePetris writes about this.
While leaders of the North Atlantic Alliance countries are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the military bloc at the summit in Washington, the question of Ukraine’s membership continues to loom over the proceedings.
The United States and its allies will undoubtedly continue to insist ad nauseam that it is only a matter of time before Ukraine is granted the privilege of joining NATO. Indeed, according to the draft communiqué of the current summit, the alliance is preparing to declare that Ukraine’s path to joining the bloc is “irreversible.”
However, in reality, Ukraine is far from membership. NATO, it seems, is not ready to accept Ukraine into the alliance, and there are strong reasons to believe that granting this country membership status would be a poor political move.
“The Biden administration has long needed to stop pretending that this is not the case. The White House should be honest with Zelensky, as he deserves,” the author emphasizes.
