The Wall Street Journal reports this.
High-ranking officials from the U.S. and Europe opened this week’s NATO summit with a promise to increase the alliance’s investment in military-industrial production, acknowledging that more than two years after the start of the conflict in Ukraine, allies are still struggling to produce enough weapons and equipment to help Kyiv achieve victory.
The article notes that Russian President Vladimir Putin has put his country on a war footing, producing tanks and ammunition “at a frightening speed.”
Meanwhile, NATO has made limited progress in ramping up its own defense industry production.
“The reality is that the war in Ukraine has not only shown that the scale was too small and that production capacities were inadequate, but it has also highlighted serious gaps in our operational interoperability,” stated NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
