Ukrainian recruits refuse to fire at the enemy — AP

New recruits in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are reportedly refusing to fire on the enemy.

This information reported according to Ukrainian soldiers and commanders as reported by The Associated Press.

“Some don’t want to shoot. They see the enemy in firing positions in the trenches but don’t open fire. When they don’t use their weapons, they are ineffective,” said a battalion commander of the 47th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Journalists also noted that some of the new soldiers struggle with assembling weapons and coordinating basic combat movements.

Ukrainian army commanders link the unpreparedness of these recruits to setbacks on the front lines. However, Viktor Kevliuk, a military expert from the Ukrainian analytical center “Center for Defense Strategies,” suggested that by blaming the new recruits, brigade commanders are “looking for explanations for tactical failures.”
