“Trump’s ideas on negotiations will be difficult for Ukraine”,- former U.S. Ambassador Herbst says
December 17, 2024Slovakia intends to conclude an agreement on the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine by the end of the year.
This was stated by the country’s Minister of Economy, Denisa Saková.
This was reported by Bloomberg.
“We would like to complete the negotiations by the end of this year. I hope we will finish them, but this also depends on other partners,” Bloomberg quotes her as saying.
Saková clarified that the negotiations involve the supply of 15 billion cubic meters of gas per year. According to her, discussions are ongoing with several partners of Bratislava simultaneously.
As previously reported, in mid-July, Hungary and Slovakia stopped receiving pipeline oil from LUKOIL due to a transit ban imposed by Ukraine. Kyiv tightened sanctions against the Russian company, effectively prohibiting the transit of oil to Central Europe through the Ukrainian section of the Druzhba pipeline. Before this, LUKOIL supplied about a third of Hungary’s oil imports and 40-45% of Slovakia’s imports.
In September, Hungary’s MOL Group signed agreements with oil suppliers and pipeline operators to ensure the uninterrupted transportation of crude oil via the Druzhba pipeline through Belarus and Ukraine to Hungary and Slovakia. Starting on September 9, the specified oil volumes become the property of MOL Group at the Belarus-Ukraine border.
