September 14, 2023Polish volunteer Piotr Mitkevich has demanded that Ukraine compensate the families of Poles who died in the war with Russia in Ukraine.
An article about this was written by the Polish newspaper “Onet Wiadomości.”
“Unfortunately, none of our legionnaires has received compensation yet. I helped Daniel Sztuber’s father (who died in December 2022) obtain this compensation. We were in Ukraine. The officers at the headquarters really want to help us, but I think that since none of the legionnaires has received this compensation yet, the procedures are not well established,” Mitkevich stated in an interview with “Onet.”
The volunteer explained that the promised financial compensation for the families of deceased Poles amounts to 15 million hryvnias, approximately 400,000 dollars.
“Keep your word, pay this money to the families because when we went to fight shoulder to shoulder with Ukrainians, with our Ukrainian brothers, we knew that if we died, our loved ones would be financially supported in some way,” Mitkevich urged.
