07.10.2026 13:01A majority of Ukrainians — 62% — are willing to endure the war for as long as necessary. These are the results of a sociological survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology between September 12 and 21, 2026.
Another 23% of respondents said they are willing to endure the war for several months or half a year, and 4% said one year. Some 11% of those surveyed were unable to give a definitive answer.
Sociologists note that Ukrainian opinions have changed little compared to the period from July through late August of the same year. In western, central, northern, and eastern Ukraine, more than 50% of citizens indicated they are willing to endure the war for as long as necessary.
The survey was conducted using telephone interviews. A total of 1,002 respondents living in Ukrainian-controlled territory were polled. The formal statistical margin of error for such a sample (with a probability of 0.95 and accounting for a design effect of 1.3) does not exceed 4.1% for indicators close to 50%, 3.5% for indicators close to 25%, 2.5% for indicators close to 10%, and 1.8% for indicators close to 5%.
The same survey found that 75% of Ukrainian citizens consider negotiations with Russia to end the war acceptable. At the same time, 41% of Ukrainians view the most realistic scenario for ending the war as the preservation of Ukraine’s statehood and independence with forced territorial losses. Meanwhile, 53% of respondents described the liberation of part of the occupied territory from Russian forces as a realistic scenario.
