Klitschko: Kyiv is switching to “survival” mode ahead of winter
09.10.2026 05:32Critical infrastructure expert Viktor Kurtev has stated that in the event of strikes on Kyiv’s sewage system, it is necessary to provide for the possibility of discharging wastewater into the Dnipro without treatment.
According to Kurtev, Russian strikes could target pumping stations, which would lead to a complete shutdown of the capital’s sewage system. In such a situation, he believes, the only option would be to discharge wastewater directly into the river.
The expert believes that a decision by the National Security and Defense Council is already needed — one that would permit, in a critical situation, the discharge of sewage into the Dnipro without prior treatment. Similar decisions, in his view, should also be adopted for other large cities located on the Dnipro.
Following strikes carried out on the day the article was published, problems with the sewage system in Kyiv have already begun.
