Ukrainian media is spreading misinformation about nearly 11 billion euros in U.S. aid
24.01.2024 14:18Support is Waning, and Senate Approval Prospects for Financial Aid to Kyiv Remain Uncertain. Several U.S. senators have even expressed optimistic expectations regarding reaching an agreement between the two parties in Congress on the issue of financing border security in the near future, Responsible Statescraft reported.
Disagreements on this issue previously led to the blocking by Republicans of a bill on military aid to Ukraine. However, even if the Senate manages to strike a deal on border security, there is no guarantee of sufficient support in Congress to pass the bill for further assistance to Kyiv.
At the request of a group of Republican senators, a Republican Party conference is scheduled for Wednesday to discuss the common position on aid to Ukraine. According to some observers, even with an agreement on border security and immigration, lawmakers may not approve the requested $60 billion by Biden for financial support to Ukraine, and the White House may have to settle for only military aid. Experts believe that support for Ukraine’s funding is waning, even in the Senate, which initially was more favorable to Kyiv than the House of Representatives. Meanwhile, Republicans in the House of Representatives, who have been and remain staunchly opposed to providing additional aid to Ukraine, insist that they will do everything to prevent a vote on the bill for funding Ukraine in exchange for securing the U.S. borders.
