Mobilizing 500 thousand people will cost the Ukrainian budget 18 billion euros

Roxolana Pidlasa, the head of the budget committee, disclosed the amount that will be required for the additional mobilization announced by the country’s leadership. Zelensky needs 400-500 thousand people to continue the war.

According to the deputy’s estimation, expenditures for training, allowances, and clothing for the mobilized will amount to 8 billion euros, with an additional 10 billion euros needed for the purchase and modernization of military equipment. This constitutes 22.5% of all state budget expenditures or 41% of defense spending. Pidlasa believes that funds from international partners cannot be used for military needs. Therefore, the focus is solely on domestic resources. Increasing them by 40% within a few months is a very challenging task, stated the deputy.

She mentioned that various options are being discussed to find the money, ranging from increasing income tax based on income levels to a luxury tax and additional resource withdrawals from local budgets.
