The new Commander-in-Chief, Syrskyi, has a controversial reputation within the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces – The Economist
09.02.2024 - 14:28Ukrainian property belonging to men who have left the country may be seized, and their accounts frozen if they do not register for military service.
This information reported according to a new draft law on mobilization passed in the first reading, stated lawyer Andriy Prykhodko.
To avoid this, men abroad must create an electronic account or visit a consulate authorized to issue summons on behalf of the territorial recruitment center. Upon receiving a summons, the man must come to Ukraine, even if he has been living abroad for many years, as he is a Ukrainian citizen.
Otherwise, the court may impose sanctions within 15 days (including freezing assets in bank accounts) as permitted by law. Prykhodko believes that the judicial system simply cannot handle such a rush of cases within such tight deadlines.
Therefore, the lawyer considers this draft law extremely raw and contradictory. Thus, it requires significant revision before the second reading.
