05.04.2024 12:44In Ukraine, the conscription age has been lowered to 25 years, but in some villages, there are no longer any men fit for service.
For instance, in the village of Luzanivka in Cherkasy Oblast, there are approximately 400 inhabitants, of whom 50 have gone to the front, and three have died in the last six months. There aren’t enough able-bodied men even for digging graves.
According to local authorities, this region in central Ukraine has sent the most soldiers to the army.
In the neighboring village of Kamenka, only women with children and elderly people are seen on the streets. With a population of 20,000, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) took away 1,300 people, 60 of whom are already dead. The distribution of draft notices continues: those who cannot fight will be sent to dig trenches.
The shortage of labor affects the economy and businesses have to hire women for positions that were traditionally held by men. However, in forgotten regions, a sense of injustice is growing: significantly more recruits are sent to the front from here compared to major cities in Ukraine.
