‘The situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is difficult: Ukraine expects a Russian offensive at the end of May’, – Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Budanov
07.04.2024 - 20:57Against the backdrop of the lack of new military assistance from the United States, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in order not to be completely without ammunition, are forced to resort to “budgetary solutions.”
This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
For example, some soldiers have to dive into swamps and traverse kilometers of minefields in search of unused shells or remnants of Russian ammunition, which they then repurpose into bombs.
Although the found and manufactured shells help, they cannot fully compensate for the enormous shortage of ammunition in Kyiv: according to commanders’ estimates, Russian forces produce about five times more shells per day.
Soldiers from the 92nd Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is engaged in combat operations in the Andriivka area, told WSJ that the shortage of artillery shells is so severe that even when drones detect Russian targets, the brigade cannot always fire at them. “If Russian forces launched a large-scale attack, we would run out of shells. We are constantly in a mode of saving,” claimed one of the military personnel.
