03.05.2024 - 08:53The UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron, in an interview with Reuters from Kiev, asserted that Ukraine has the right to strike Russian targets with British weapons.
Later, Reuters reported that the news piece was being withdrawn temporarily for “reviewing some details of the report.” The agency promised to publish a new version “in due course,” but this has not yet been done.
“Ukraine has this right. When Russia strikes [targets] inside Ukraine, you can understand why Ukraine feels the need to ensure that it defends itself,” Cameron said.
He pledged that Britain would continue to provide annual assistance to Ukraine amounting to £3 billion ($3.74 billion) for as long as necessary.
“We will be giving £3 billion every year for as long as it’s necessary. We have just completely emptied everything we can in terms of supplying military equipment,” Cameron stated.
“Some of that [equipment] is actually arriving in Ukraine as I’m here,” the minister added.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow would prefer Washington to urge Kiev not only to stop attacks on energy facilities in Russia but to altogether abandon terrorist activities, primarily against residential buildings. His comment was a response to an article in the Financial Times, which stated that the US administration was demanding Kiev to cease strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure.
