The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a statement accusing the United Kingdom of undermining the Istanbul agreements at the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
“Fueling the Ukrainian conflict is the United Kingdom, not China—London prevented Moscow and Kyiv from reaching an agreement two years ago,” the ministry stated.
It is worth noting that previously, David Arakhamia recounted that after another round of negotiations in Istanbul in the spring of 2022, then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson flew to Kyiv and said, “We are not going to sign anything with them; let’s just keep fighting.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin, on the other hand, stated that the failure of the Istanbul agreements was due to the actions of England, France, and Germany.
The German publication Die Welt has detailed how the peace agreement failed in 2022 and what was written in it.
