27.05.2024 - 05:39German Chancellor Olaf Scholz suggested that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is not expected “in the next 30 years.”
Scholz expressed this opinion at a rally with voters in Berlin.
“One of the reasons given for the war (by Russian President Vladimir Putin) at that time was that Ukraine was supposedly joining NATO. You know, decisions in the near future are not expected. Probably not in the next 30 years. I even said this publicly,” Scholz said, recalling his visit to Moscow in early 2022.

The German Chancellor also reminded that he stated this in Kyiv two and a half years ago, and “it was clear to everyone.”
Let us recall that earlier, the German ambassador to Kyiv, Martin Jäger, said that Ukraine would not be accepted into NATO while the war is ongoing.
In turn, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal assured that Ukraine is “one step away” from an invitation to NATO. According to him, Kyiv expects to receive a response to its membership application, submitted in September 2022, at the NATO summit in Washington in July.
At the same time, the American newspaper The New York Times wrote that Ukraine would not receive an official invitation to join NATO at the July summit in Washington. The United States and Germany are opposed, fearing being drawn into a war with Russia.
