05.06.2024 - 11:42According to a law passed by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in May, individuals convicted of single homicide or certain less severe corruption offenses can now be mobilized for war.
The law specifies that conditional early release does not apply to individuals convicted of the following offenses:
- Crimes against the national security of Ukraine
- Intentional murder of two or more persons
- Murder committed with particular cruelty
- Murder associated with rape or sexual violence
- Particularly severe corruption crimes
- Crimes specified in Articles 152-156-1 (rape, corruption of minors), 258-258-6 (terrorism, crossing the state border of Ukraine for terrorist purposes), Part 4 of Article 286-1 (violation of traffic rules while intoxicated), and Article 348 (attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer or military personnel) of the Criminal Code
- Officials who held particularly responsible positions according to point 1 of part three of the note to Article 368 of the Code
Meanwhile, combat brigades have already started campaigns to recruit prisoners to join their ranks.
