Law enforcement can track the movements of Ukrainians through ‘Diia’
05.06.2024 - 12:30In the Zvyahel Territorial Recruitment Center in Zhytomyr Oblast, a mobilized man named Serhiy Kovalchuk, aged 32, has died.
Kovalchuk’s family claims that he was beaten to death at the recruitment center, and he was admitted to the hospital with multiple injuries and in a coma.
“My son was killed, that’s it. What else is there to say? According to the conclusion, he had a skull fracture,” said the deceased’s father, Mykola Kovalchuk.
Neighbors of the deceased stated that he was not liable for military service due to having epilepsy, but he was taken to the recruitment center after receiving a draft notice at home.
“His head was smashed, his jaw was beaten, his sternum was beaten – how can this be epilepsy? And if it was epilepsy, why did you take him and not provide any help?” said the deceased’s aunt.

The hospital confirmed that the man was brought in extremely critical condition, in a coma, with diagnoses including “closed traumatic brain injury, linear fracture of the parietal bone, right-sided intracranial hematoma, focal brain contusion, diffuse brain contusion, lower jaw fracture, pneumonia caused by aspiration of food or vomit.”
Serhiy underwent surgery, spent four days on a ventilator, and died without regaining consciousness.
A local resident claimed that this was the fourth or fifth similar case in their city.
Meanwhile, the recruitment center stated that “no external physical impact was inflicted on the man” and that the cause of death was allegedly alcohol.

The statement from the recruitment center, published on Facebook, mentioned that the man was brought in for a medical examination.
“Witnesses noted that the man had been drinking heavily for several days and showed signs of minor injuries. On the morning of May 29, the man had an epileptic seizure induced by prolonged alcohol consumption,” the publication from the recruitment center said.
Previously, a mobilized man who was deemed fit for service died in a recruitment center in Zakarpattia.
