12.06.2024 - 09:37The number of countries and organizations confirming their participation in the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland has decreased from 93 to 78.
This information was provided anonymously by several European Union diplomats familiar with the summit preparations, in a statement to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
The diplomats did not name the countries that had withdrawn but mentioned that more might do so.
“My goal is to have a family photo with nearly 80 people,” said one official.
Another diplomat, however, expressed optimism about the 78 confirmed participants, noting, “There is still a little time left.”
Meanwhile, the newspaper Clarín, citing sources, reported that Argentine President Javier Milei will participate in the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland. Previously, Bloomberg had reported that Milei might not attend the summit.
Additionally, Ukrainian President’s press secretary Serhiy Nykyforov stated that hopes for China’s participation in the Swiss summit are “illusory.”
“As of now, there is no confirmation from China that they will participate in the summit. And the hopes that they will participate are illusory,” Nykyforov noted.
Meanwhile, the German magazine Der Spiegel wrote that China’s refusal to participate in the Ukraine peace summit in Switzerland was “a bitter disappointment” for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Hungary will be represented at the summit in Switzerland by Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.
