13.06.2024 - 14:36The power situation in Ukraine may worsen “in the coming days” as a large nuclear power plant unit is taken offline for maintenance. This unit has a capacity of 1,000 MW.
This information reported by Energoatom.
“In the coming days, Energoatom will take another 1,000 MW unit offline for maintenance. Considering this and the increased electricity consumption in July, the generation deficit in the power system may increase. This maintenance schedule will allow for a maximum reduction in the duration of forced power outages in the fall,” the statement said.
According to Acting Chairman Petro Kotin, this year, as in the previous year, the company is conducting scheduled preventive maintenance of nuclear power plant units ahead of schedule.
Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers stated that consumption limits would be reduced starting from June 24.
The day before, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that 62 power units at thermal and hydroelectric power plants are not functioning. In total, 42 power units have been destroyed, and another 20 hydroelectric units have been damaged. Additionally, 73% of thermal power plants are non-operational.
