16.07.2024 08:30India summoned the Ukrainian ambassador to its Ministry of External Affairs following President Volodymyr Zelensky’s criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia, where Modi met with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.
This was reported by the Economic Times.
In addition to this, New Delhi has postponed a meeting of the joint working group on cultural issues with Kyiv in light of the incident.
Modi’s visit, during which he referred to Putin as a “friend,” coincided with a Russian missile strike on Kyiv, specifically targeting the “Okhmatdyt” children’s hospital.
“It is a huge disappointment and a devastating blow to peace efforts to see the leader of the world’s largest democracy embracing the world’s bloodiest criminal in Moscow on such a day,” the President of Ukraine wrote.
During his visit to Russia, Modi told Putin that war cannot be a solution to any problem, although he did not directly mention Ukraine.
The Economic Times also noted that “relations between India and Ukraine remain cool due to Kyiv’s military ties with Pakistan, Ukraine’s criticism of India’s nuclear tests in 1998, and opposition to New Delhi’s position on Kashmir at the UN.”
It is also known that the Indian Prime Minister agreed with Putin to end the war in Ukraine through diplomacy involving both Kyiv and Moscow.
