This information reported according to a report by Rzeczpospolita.
“The supply of ammunition to Poland was blocked—more or less directly—by the South African government due to fears that it could be sent to Ukraine,” the article states.
Warsaw had ordered 155mm shells from the German defense giant Rheinmetall. These were to be manufactured by Denel Munition, a subsidiary based in South Africa, in which Rheinmetall holds a 51% stake. However, the contract for the supply was canceled in July 2023.
It’s worth noting that South Africa, along with Russia, is a member of BRICS.
Additionally, according to Bloomberg, some NATO countries have failed to fulfill their promises to provide Ukraine with air defense systems.
