23.08.2024 - 09:15A corruption scandal involving the supply of generators to Ukraine has erupted in Poland, with a government official who had received an award from President Volodymyr Zelensky coming under suspicion.
This was reported by the Polish Press Agency (PAP).
According to the report, a warrant for the arrest in absentia was issued yesterday for Michał Kuczmierowski, the former head of the Governmental Agency for Strategic Reserves (RARS), in connection with the misappropriation of an EU grant worth 114 million euros intended for the supply of generators to Ukraine.
The investigation alleges that certain companies were favored during the procurement process. In July, two more officials were also implicated in this case.
Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has accused the current Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, of political persecution. Morawiecki claims that Kuczmierowski was the architect of a reform that transformed RARS into a “center of real support for Ukraine,” enabling the rapid procurement of essential equipment.
“For this, by the way, he was awarded the Order of Merit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky,” Morawiecki noted.
