‘Beijing is unlikely to turn away from Moscow’: Biden’s National Security Advisor wants to urge Beijing to reduce support for Russia in the war against Ukraine

Jake Sullivan, Biden’s National Security Advisor, has arrived in China and will likely urge Beijing to reduce its support for Russia in its war against Ukraine.

This was reported by The New York Times.

“But Beijing is unlikely to turn away from Moscow, its only partner among major powers capable of balancing the United States,” the publication commented.

Sullivan is also likely to discuss with the Chinese restrictions on the spread of fentanyl, the expansion of high-level military contacts, and Taiwan. NYT doubts that there will be agreement on these issues as well.

The publication suggests that the visit is related to Biden’s impending departure and the White House’s desire to strengthen its strategy regarding China, despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of American foreign policy.
