Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to increase the size of the Russian army by 180,000 people.
The corresponding document is published on the Kremlin’s website.
The army’s size is increased to 2,389,000 people, of which 1.5 million are military personnel.
The last increase in the army’s size was in December 2023, bringing the total to 2,209,130 people, including 1,320,000 military personnel.
Putin has also ordered the allocation of funds from the Russian budget to the Ministry of Defense for the maintenance of these military personnel.
Earlier, it was reported that Russia increased the payments for joining the army for six months. From August 1 until the end of the year, an additional payment of 400,000 rubles ($4,600) will be given for signing a contract.
