09.10.2024 05:22German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is ready to hold talks with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, provided that they lead to progress toward peace.
This was reported by Reuters, citing a German official.
“A German official confirmed Scholz’s readiness for negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, on the condition that they open the prospect of progress toward a just and sustainable peace, but warned Russia not to perceive this as a sign of weakness,” the agency writes.
The official also stated that during the meeting on October 12 at the “Ramstein” format, the message to Ukraine will be that support remains strong, and to Moscow, the message will be that there is no point in speculating that the European Union might waver in its support.
It’s worth noting that the German newspaper “Die Zeit”, citing sources, previously reported that Olaf Scholz plans to hold a conversation with Vladimir Putin “in the coming weeks” for the first time in almost two years.
At the same time, the Kremlin stated that they have not received any requests for a phone conversation between the German chancellor and Vladimir Putin. The last phone conversation between Scholz and Putin took place in December 2022.
