10.10.2024 11:23There are conflicting signals in the European press regarding whether Ukraine is ready to halt the war along the current front lines.
The article analyzes Zelensky’s current visit to key European capitals—Berlin, Paris, and Rome—and suggests that he is “ready for a ceasefire along the current line, without recognizing a new official border.”
In exchange, Zelensky seeks security guarantees from the U.S., similar to those given to Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines. He also aims to convince European leaders to offer assurances of Ukraine’s fast-tracked membership in the European Union.
On the other hand, the Spanish newspaper *El Mundo* offers a contrasting view, stating that Zelensky is not willing to abandon his “peace formula,” which demands the full withdrawal of Russian troops to Ukraine’s 1991 borders. During a visit to Croatia, Zelensky and other Ukrainian leaders reportedly reiterated that they will not accept any other peace plan. Zelensky emphasized that his “victory plan” is aimed at “forcing Russia to negotiate on Kyiv’s terms.”
“El Mundo” also reports that Zelensky’s plan involves requesting an immediate invitation to join NATO and a significant supply of weapons. This contrasts with the *Corriere Della Sera* article, which mentioned a different format, where Zelensky would seek U.S. security guarantees rather than NATO membership.
