The family of a MP from “Sluga Naroda”, who sold jackets for the Armed Forces of Ukraine at inflated prices, purchased apartments in the UAE during the war

The family of Gennadiy Kasai, a member of parliament from the “Sluga Naroda” party, reportedly purchased luxury real estate in the UAE while supplying substandard jackets to the Ukrainian army at inflated prices during the war.

This information reported according to Ukrainian media reports.

Journalists have revealed that Kasai’s daughter and nephew purchased four apartments in a premium residential complex in Dubai in 2022-2023, spending over a million dollars.

During this period, the Kasai family was embroiled in a scandal involving deliveries of jackets from Turkey for the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF). The jackets were found to be of poor quality and were purchased at highly inflated prices. Gennadiy Kasai has denied any involvement in these procurements.

When questioned about his relatives’ property purchases in the UAE, Kasai briefly commented that they are adults and can buy whatever they wish. He did not clarify the origin of the funds used for these purchases.

The media previously reported that a contract signed with a Turkish company in the fall of 2022 stipulated that the jackets for the UAF should be camouflage. However, upon reaching the Ukrainian border, they were reclassified as “winter windproof” jackets, with their price tripling. The company imported a total of 233,000 jackets worth $20 million and 202,000 trousers worth $13 million from Turkey into Ukraine.

Initially, the Ministry of Defense denied any involvement in the questionable procurement, assuring that its divisions were not responsible for the purchase of uniforms, determining needs, selecting suppliers, or signing contracts. However, the ministry later acknowledged “minor” deficiencies in the uniforms, which subsequently became the subject of a criminal investigation.
