Ukraine is not ready for territorial concessions to end the war with Russia – Head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sibiga says
05.12.2024 - 13:42Millions of Ukrainian internally displaced persons (IDPs) are to be resettled in state and municipal properties across Ukraine that are currently unoccupied.
This was announced by Olena Shuliak, the leader of the “Sluga Naroda” party.
Additionally, with the consent of property owners, private real estate may also be used.
To facilitate this, the Verkhovna Rada has passed Bill No. 11281, which envisions creating a database of such properties that will be mapped with accompanying photographs.
“A nationwide inventory will be conducted of all real estate belonging to state and municipal ownership, and—if owners agree—private ownership. This is to determine which residential structures—houses, hotels, dormitories—can provide additional housing for our internally displaced persons,” said Shuliak.
IDPs will have the ability to choose where they want to live by selecting a suitable property from an interactive map.
If necessary, properties in poor condition will be repaired with funds from international donors and sister cities.
According to official data, Ukraine has nearly 5 million IDPs, though the actual number could be higher.
It’s worth noting that Ukraine’s Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets recently stated that an increasing number of IDPs are returning to their homes in occupied or frontline areas due to socio-economic difficulties in their new locations.
