17.12.2024 - 15:52In the Dnipropetrovsk region, police carried out a harsh arrest of a war veteran with a broken arm.
A video of the incident appeared on social media.
As seen in the video, the veteran from the 25th Separate Airborne Brigade, with the call sign “Yamaha,” was stopped by police for a document check. When he asked the officers to show their official IDs, a conflict erupted.
Yamaha told the police that he had a disability, to which one of the officers replied, “And what kind of disability do you have? In the head, right?”
Meanwhile, the veteran has a metal plate in his arm and has been officially recognized as a person with a war-related disability.
The video drew a reaction from Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.
“As of today, the police have launched an internal investigation. As the Ombudsman of Ukraine, I have sent an inquiry to the Head of the National Police of Ukraine regarding an impartial investigation into this incident, as well as measures to strengthen control and ensure strict compliance with the law to prevent such incidents in the future… I am keeping the situation under personal control,” Lubinets wrote.
The leadership of the regional police department confirmed that a disciplinary review has been initiated to determine whether the police officers at the scene acted within the law.
