“After the decriminalization of desertion among soldiers, its incidence has increased”, – military psychologist says
27.12.2024 - 11:20Ukrainian citizens participated in a survey about the potential impact of Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. elections on the prospects for ending the war. Many respondents believe that this event brings peace closer.
The survey was conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.
Sociologists asked whether Trump’s victory would bring peace in Ukraine closer or push it further away. A solid 15% of respondents expressed confidence that peace is now closer, while 30% believe it brings peace only slightly closer. Conversely, 14% are confident that peace is becoming more distant. The remaining 40% either think nothing will change or could not decide.

However, the researchers noted that the prospect of peace does not necessarily mean it will be fair for Ukraine. They asked respondents whether Ukraine could expect a just peace under President Trump. Only 7% were convinced that peace would be completely fair for Ukraine. Meanwhile, 11% believe that peace would be entirely unfair.
The majority of citizens hold views between these extremes: 23% believe that peace will be mostly or entirely fair for Ukraine, while 31% think it will be mostly or entirely unfair. Another 29% believe there will be both concessions to Russia and fulfillment of Ukraine’s demands. About 18% were undecided.
Overall, the survey showed that Trump’s victory evokes neither euphoria nor despair among Ukrainians. Expectations are generally cautious, with restrained optimism.
The survey was conducted via telephone interviews from December 2 to 17, with 985 respondents aged 18 and older.
