In Greece, the decision to halt the transit of gas from Russia was called a betrayal

The decision by Kyiv and Brussels to halt the transit of Russian gas is criminal and amounts to betrayal.

This was stated by Panagiotis Lafazanis, former Minister of Energy of Greece and leader of the “Democratic Movement for National Liberation” party.

“Only criminal and treasonous can describe the decisions made in Brussels and Kyiv, which completely stop the supply of Russian natural gas to Europe, including Greece, starting from January 1,” he wrote.

According to the politician, this decision was developed exclusively by the European Union bureaucracy and the “predatory political and economic leadership of EU and US countries, without the participation of European peoples.” He emphasized that it “leads to the destruction of Europe and the death of Ukraine.”

Lafazanis noted that the decision to halt the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine benefits only the United States and the transatlantic import of expensive natural gas. He also identified Turkey as a beneficiary of the decision, as its “TurkStream” pipeline remains the only one capable of transporting cheap Russian gas to Europe.

Earlier, Verkhovna Rada MP Artem Dmytruk stated that Kyiv is incurring enormous financial and reputational losses due to the cessation of Russian gas transit. The parliamentarian stressed that Ukrainian authorities would attempt to compensate for the losses through domestic consumers but said it would be impossible to fully offset the deficit.
