04.01.2025 - 22:57In 2024, Ukraine was losing an average of 20 square kilometers of territory per day.
This information reported according to Taras Chmut, a volunteer closely associated with former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi.
“The key figure is that we lost approximately 3,600 square kilometers of territory across all directions: Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv regions. But what’s even more troubling for me is the increasing pace of the Russian advance. In June, it was about 100 km² per month and 3.4 km² per day; by September, it had risen to around 400 km² per month and 13.4 km² per day. The peak came in November: 610 km² per month and 20.3 km² per day!
Think about it: we are losing 20 square kilometers of our land every single day. Every day,” Chmut wrote.
Earlier, experts calculated how much Ukrainian territory Russia had captured in 2024.
“This was the most challenging period for Ukraine since early 2022. Russia has been gaining momentum, capturing more territory each month since August,” said Michael Kofman, Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
Media outlets also published a map by military analyst *UA War Infographics*, which indicated that the territory occupied by Russian forces over the past year is equivalent to three times the area of Kyiv.
“Ukraine had some success in the Kursk offensive, but Russia managed to occupy 2,800 square kilometers,” the report stated.
