10.01.2025 - 18:38European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is attempting to arrange a meeting with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump before his inauguration on January 20.
This information reported according to Bloomberg.
The report indicates that EU representatives and Trump’s team have already discussed the possibility of a meeting. However, it remains uncertain whether von der Leyen will be able to visit Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida before the inauguration.
The situation is further complicated by von der Leyen’s recent bout with pneumonia, from which she has not yet fully recovered.
Earlier in January, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held talks with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. According to *The New York Times*, this meeting bolstered hopes among Meloni’s supporters that the Italian prime minister might become Trump’s “key ally in Europe.”
Since Trump’s election victory, several world leaders have visited his residence, including Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Argentine President Javier Milei, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Trump won the U.S. presidential election on November 5, defeating Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris. Current President Joe Biden, a Democrat, will hand over executive powers to Republican Trump on January 20.
