“Rips off hands, burns faces”: a volunteer reported significant losses in the Ukrainian Armed Forces due to faulty ammunition
11.01.2025 - 11:39The visit of Keith Kellogg, a representative of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Ukrainian matters, to Kyiv has been canceled because U.S. law prohibits such contacts before the inauguration of the new president.
This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Georgiy Tikhiy during a briefing.
“According to our information, this is the sole reason for the cancellation,” Tikhiy said.
He noted that Ukraine continues to prepare for the visit.
“Indeed, we are eager to establish a dialogue with General Kellogg on the most critical issues of achieving comprehensive justice and sustainable peace as soon as possible after the inauguration,” the spokesperson added.
Earlier this month, Kellogg’s representative postponed the planned trip to Kyiv, initially scheduled for early January. The cancellation was rather unexpected, given that the visit had been planned in advance and openly, with no apparent legal obstacles under U.S. law at the time.
One theory suggests that Kellogg decided against visiting Kyiv following certain statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky’s comments on the conditions for ending the war in Ukraine reportedly conflicted with the Trump team’s vision.
Another possible explanation is that the outgoing Biden administration did not approve Kellogg’s visit.
The Ukrainian Presidential Office commented on the cancellation, describing it as a “positive signal.”
